As part of Lifelong Learning, the University of Amsterdam is participating in the national pilot Microcredentials. Together with 33 other higher education institutions, it is shaping a system in which digital certificates for individual educational units have recognizable and identifiable value.

What is a Microcredential?

A microcredential is a digital certificate that allows professionals to demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills after successful completion of an individual teaching unit (3 - 30 EC). Micocredentials guarantee the quality of the education followed, as each unit of study must meet a number of quality requirements. The education is accreditation-worthy, embedded in a quality assurance process, and designed to achieve learning outcomes. Achieved microcredentials are also traceable and verifiable. They are issued nationwide and registered via SURF's Edubadge service.
