Seven researchers from the Informatics Institute have been named Fellows and Scholars of ELLIS Amsterdam. Christof Monz, Efstratios Gavves and Jan-Willem van de Meent have been named Fellows. Christian Andersson Naesseth, Iris Groen, Pascal Mettes and Mohammad Aliannejadi have been named Scholars.

ELLIS Fellows are typically senior researchers who have made significant contributions to machine learning. They are expected to act as ambassadors for ELLIS and contribute to the network’s leadership. Scholars are outstanding researchers at an earlier career stage, recognised for their achievements and potential to develop as leaders in the field.

ELLIS assesses candidates not only on scientific excellence, but also on societal impact and their engagement with the wider network. The distinction recognises both the researchers’ academic contributions and their involvement in a European community working to advance machine learning.
