Kyuri Park, PhD candidate in the Computational Science Lab (CSL), has been awarded a 2025 grant from the KNAW Van der Gaag Fund. The grant supports innovative research into the biological, psychological, and social determinants of human behaviour.

A bridge between data and policy

The grant will fund an international research collaboration with Stanford University, hosted by Dr Sara Constantino. As part of this collaboration, Park will analyse a unique U.S. population-based longitudinal dataset on climate attitudes and behaviours. Using causal inference methods, she will investigate how people’s attitudes, their actions, and their support for climate policies change together over time, and what this reveals about pathways towards more sustainable societies.

Future trajectory

While the initial analyses use U.S. data, the primary goal is to develop a transferable analytical framework that can inform Dutch policymakers. The collaboration also provides opportunities to connect with researchers at Stanford working on causal methods and sustainability-related behavioural science, helping to further refine methods relevant to climate challenges.
