Fostering innovation through public private partnerships

The Informatics Institute is fully connected with - and open to society at large and actively seeks to create societal impact by fostering innovation through public private partnerships and supporting the creation of spin-offs and start-ups.

The Informatics Institute will strengthen its valorisation by developing collaborations with highly innovative industry, and with governmental and non-governmental organizations, e.g., via joint appointments and actively cooperates with partners in and outside academia, local and further away.

The different pillars of the Informatics Institute partnerships, research & education are connected with each other. Researchers of the institute are essential for creating partnerships with external partners. Many students who follow the computer science programmes at the UvA can do an internship at one of the partners. Special Thesis Fairs are organized to facilitate this.

Furthermore, the Informatics Institute in collaboration with Amsterdam Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE), Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA), and Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI), has made an effort to boost up the foundation of the Informatics Institute spin-offs. In particular, the Informatics Institute through ICAI is setting up a fund for supporting spin-off companies through a new Venture Capitalist (VC). Also, IXA is providing proof-of-concept funds up to €120,000, while Amsterdam Data Science (ADS) is supporting spin-off ideas with small seed money of the order of €10,000.
