Best paper award for Max Welling and other computer scientists
A team of computer scientists from UvA and VU (including Max Welling of the Informatics Institute) have won the best paper award at the ParLearning workshop in Chicago, on 27 May.
The paper, entitled Scalable Overlapping Community Detection, is joint work between the High Performance Distributed Computing group of professor Henri Bal and the Machine Learning group of Max Welling. It discusses how to parallelize a machine learning algorithm for the detection of overlapping communities within large graphs, such as social network graphs. The parallel algorithm enables the processing of record-size graphs.
From VU Amsterdam PhD student Ismail El-Helw and scientific programmer Rutger Hofman participated in this paper.
