IvI and ILLC start collaboration with software company SAP

23 February 2016

The UvA research institutes IvI and ILLC have started a collaboration with software company SAP. The first two projects are focused on text analysis in combination with machine learning.

Two PhD students have been appointed for the course of this collaboration. Serhii Havrylov starts at the Institute of Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) under supervision of  Dr. Ivan Titov. And Thomas Kipf is appointed at the Informatics Institute (IvI) with professor Max Welling as supervisor. The projects concern a period of four year and consider the analysis of ‘trading networks’. Professor Welling illustrates: ‘In our research we will analyze products and companies which trade over the networks. For this purpose we will rely on text analysis in combination with machine learning.’

The collaboration allows to get an even deeper understanding of how text analysis and machine learning can influence a trading network such for example Ariba, an SAP company. The UvA is pleased to cooperate with a company which develops software used worldwide.
