Horizon 2020 Grant for Dariu Gavrila

23 February 2015

Prof. Dariu Gavrila of the Informatics Institute received a H2020 grant for the PROSPECT project. PROSPECT (PROactive Safety for PEdestrians and CyclisTs) addresses vulnerable road user safety in the context of intelligent vehicles.

A large part of the European automotive industry participates in this 6.9 million Euro project (Audi, BMW, Daimler, Volvo, Toyota Europe, Bosch, Continental) as well as several institutes and universities (among which, TNO Automotive and the University of Amsterdam). UvA-Informatics Institute will focus within PROSPECT on video-based recognition of pedestrians/bicycles and on modeling their behavior.

The aim is to better anticipate dangerous traffic situations with these traffic participants, in order to be able to react earlier (e.g. automatic emergency braking). The UvA Informatics Institute budget is 461 thousand Euro.
